Marketing and Sales: Knowing the Sales Channels, Your Customers, and Where They Shop
With Christian publishers now contributing to the general marketplace some of the best marketed and best selling books, we have become increasingly sophisticated in marketing and selling. This session will cover the principles of classic marketing and the role of marketing/sales data now available to publishers, as well as the difference between marketing and sales methods employed by general publishers and those employed by Christian publishers.
Speaker Bios:
John Johnson, National Sales Director, Tyndale House Publishers
Graduate of Northern Illinois University in 1976 with a degree is Marketing. Spent the next 24 years working for SC Johnson Wax. During those 24 years moved from a territory manager to Regional Sales Manager, twice being awarded the Global Award for top sales performers and an officer’s award for special service. From 1983 to 1985 worked in sales development working with marketing to develop, communicate, motivate and evaluate trade sales programs. This experience led to the opportunity to manage two of the largest sales regions in the country from 1985 to 2000.
In March of 2000 joined Tyndale House Publishers as CBA National Account Manager.
During Seven and a half years at Tyndale managed a variety of CBA and ABA chains and Distributors. In the last 4 years has been given the added responsibility of being the liaison between trade sales and the two publishing teams as well as directing retail Tyndale District Sales Managers. The objective in this role is to improve coordination between sales and publishing/marketing as Tyndale goes to market.
John and wife Susan have been married for 33 years and have three adult married sons, and 2 grand children. Enjoyed a close association with Wheaton Academy High School as Co-Vice Presidents of the schools first athletic Booster Club and served as Men’s prayer group leader for 6 years.
