Speakers Bio:
Spanish Market – Tessie DeVore:
A Cuban/Puerto Rican, Tessie DeVore became the Executive Vice President of Strang Communications Book Group in 2006. She is responsible for the growth and development of all Strang's book imprints. In 1993 she launched
Vida Cristiana, and the magazine has since become the largest Spanish-language Christian magazine in the United States—serving the fastest- growing demographic segment in the nation. Then, she launched Casa Creación, Strang's Spanish book imprint, in 1997. This year, for the second time, Casa Creación received the Publisher of the Year Award given at Expolit. She is the first woman to serve as president of SEPA (Spanish Evangelical Publishers Association) and the first to be elected for two consecutive terms. In 2002, PR Newswire named her one of the top 100 Hispanic journalists in the nation. DeVore and her husband reside in Central Florida with their two sons.
Eastern Europe Market – Rick Iles:
Rick has been working among Christian Publishers in Central and Eastern Europe for more than 15 years. In the early years he helped produce Christian literature, especially children’s four color books in many languages in this area, in conjunction with CCMI and OM. In 2005, LINKS – “Literature In New KontextS”- was begun in response to the request of nationals for encouragement and training to be brought to or near their country. As the director of LINKS, he has seen growth in relationships between national publishing houses as well a greater awareness from publishers outside Eastern Europe as to life and business in these areas. Originally from New Zealand, Rick lives in Austria with his wife and 3 children.
Korean Market – Hosung Maeng:
Hosung is currently president of KCBS Literary Agency, the only agency working exclusively on Christian titles. He has placed 1,500+ Christian titles in Korea since year 2000. He currently represents 40 + US & UK publishers and author agencies in Korea (both exclusively and non-exclusively) and works with 200+ Korean publishers (both Christian and non-Christian). He is known as an expert in the area of Christian publishing industry in Korea, which many consider to be the largest licensing market outside the English-language speaking countries. He has a B.A. in English Literature from Soongsil University in Seoul, a M.Div. from Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary in Seoul, and also studied New Testament in the Ph.D. program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, IL. Hosung, his wife, and 2 daughters live in Korea.
The Facilitator: Cindy Riggins
Cindy Riggins has 14 years experience in international rights. She is the owner of Riggins International Rights Services, which provides publishing rights sales, management and consulting services. Cindy is also a board member for the Global Publishers Alliance and serves on the ECPA International Rights Managers steering committee. Cindy was previously the International Rights Director at Thomas Nelson for 10 years. Prior to being called to serve in the Christian publishing industry, she held positions in sales, marketing, and human resources. She received special achievement awards from AT&T and Kelly Services during her tenure with their organizations. Cindy and her husband reside outside Nashville, TN, near her two step-children and four grandchildren.
